Aug 27, 2016 - Aug 27, 2016
This workshop will consist of three yoga practices all of which require no prior experience and are very beginner friendly: Yin Yoga; Yoga Nidra; and Kirtan.
About the Practices
Yin yoga is a style of yoga done where poses are held for minutes at a time with the muscles relaxed. This creates a unique effect on the muscles and fascia of the physical body, the nervous system and the subtle energy system called meridians in Taoism and Chinese Medicine. Yin practice is very good physical, mental and energetic preparation for any kind of meditation. The Yin practice will last about an hour and a half.
Yoga Nidra means ‘sleep meditation’ and is a guided meditation practice done while lying down. Because it is both guided and done in a supine position beginners tend to find it easier than styles of meditation done in a seated position. The Yoga Nidra portion will last about 45 minutes.
Finally Kirtan is chanting in sanskrit done with musical accompaniment. It is considered part of the devotional path of yoga called Bhakti Yoga. The Kirtan will last anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours.
