About the Weekend
On this weekend retreat, we will use Yin asanas (passive-static postures), Hatha-yoga asanas (active-static postures), Pranayamas (yogic breathing techniques), Yoga Nidra (sleep meditation), and Mantra (yogic chanting) to dive deep into the heart of Dyhana (seated meditation or Zazen), the most potent of all yogic techniques.
You will receive instructions on the first evening if you need to learn to do seated meditation (or Zazen) and walking meditation (or Kinhin). This retreat, however, is for more than just people new to meditation. By reconnecting meditation with its yogic roots, we will revitalize and deepen our practice and hopefully break through to a new relationship with our meditation practice, ourselves, and our world.
After years of teaching meditation to people in different ways, I’ve discovered that diving right into this weekend retreat is one of the best ways to introduce and establish a daily meditation practice. If you’ve been struggling to get a regular home meditation practice going, this weekend can be what you need to get you started or back on track.
You do not need prior meditation or yoga experience to attend; all levels are welcome. However, please arrive with an open heart and mind and set the intention to do your best with all the practices. As my Zen teacher says, “Zazen is hard work”!
All practices are guided by Douglas Johnson E-RYT 500, YACEP, OM, and CKIF.
