Happiness and Wellbeing Are Not What We Think

Do you think you know what it would take to make you happy? Most people do. But scientific research often finds that the things we think would make us happy don’t, and that other things like socialization with strangers, walking outdoors, and in this instance vegetable gardening do.

While my teaching is not about gardening per-se, accepting that the path to happiness is not the one we have been on is important for a serious spiritual student. In the end, even our vegetable garden can be taken away and some don’t have access to one. Ultimately, in spirituality we are looking for a source of well-being that is always with us.

Having said that, there are many things we can do on a more superficial level, like gardening, that make life more enjoyable, and many of these things may surprise you and that is why I wanted to share this with you.
