Magicians Exploit Cognitive Bias to Make “Magic”

I certainly hope you are watching these Ted Talks I am posting about our intrinsic bias as human beings. It is a point that most really need to “grock” for us to be open to many of the deeper teachings.

This is a fun one. The young man explains how magicians like himself exploits our biases to do magic. The reason it seems like magic to us is because we truly believe we see reality as it is and that we are not missing anything important. The fact that magic tricks are possible demonstrate that this is not the case.

I hope you are learning just how fallible our perceptions and ideas of the world are and that this is not just something that I or the yoga tradition postulate, but verifiable scientific truth. Is it a problem? Well, without it magic tricks would not be possible. I think the only problem comes from actually believing these biases and blind spots do not exist.
